Christmas comes early for hawkers in Eldoret town as county allows them to hawk in the CBD.

The County Government of Uasin Gishu has granted hawkers a go-ahead to carry out hawking in the streets of Eldoret town effective 23rd December 2020 to 1st January 2021.

This follows the hawker’s request to the county administration to allow them to hawk for the few days before the end of the year.

Speaking today during the meeting with heads of different hawking Saccos in Eldoret, CECM for Trade and Industrialization Dr Emily Kogos maintained that law and order must be followed throughout the period.

“There will be specific places for hawking and if you have not been cleared with the county’s administration and enforcement unit to operate in a certain area please do not break the guideline,” said Kogos

Her counterpart for Water and Environment Mary Njogu urged them to observe covid 19 set protocols by making sure that they provide water and sanitizers.

“Consider also to keep your operational area clean. We don’t want to find waste scattered in the streets” she said

Eldo Hawkers Sacco chairman Robert Munene noted that Governor Jackson Mandago EGH has been of help to hawkers through the provision of a conducive business environment.

He said: “nowadays we are organised as hawkers. There are no issues of non-compliance like before. This is what we have gained after accepting to listen to the governor and the entire administration”poised Munene

County enforcement officers will be at the forefront of checking compliance.
