Governor Bii Launches inaugural Sisibo cultural festivals.
Uasin Gishu Governor Dr. Jonathan Bii EGH, on Tuesday presided over the official launch of the inaugural Sisibo Cultural Festivals in Eldoret.
The three-day festivals are being held at the Zion Mall Street and will run up to Thursdsay August 8, 2024.
Speaking during the event, Governor Bii said the event provides an opportunity for Eldoret and Uasin Gishu County as a whole to showcase its rich cultural diversity.
“Every community has its own culture and traditions which we want to maintain by holding such events,” the County boss said.
He also pointed out that with the anticipated city status, the cultural diversity will also play a key role in attracting tourists.
Eldoret was to be awarded a city charter this Thursday but the event has been moved forward by a week.
He said the city status will enable the town to get more resources and attract more invesotrs as is the current state with other four cities – Nairobi, Kisumu, Mombasa and Nakuru.
On his part, the Uasin Gishu Assembly chair of the Culture committee, Thomas Kering, expressed the need to make the event to be held annually.
“We appreciate the Governor for his leadership. Let’s keep working together so that going forward dancers and singers can be well facilitated to sell out county better,” the MCA said.
County Executive Committee Member for Culture, Anthony Sitienei said the SISIBO cultural festivals enable the county to showcase its cultural diversity.
“We have almost all the communities in this county and this event provides an opportunity for us to showcase not only the culture but also food, fashion, music and dances,” said Mr Sitienei.
“This is a perfect way to appreciate our culture and way of life, while moving away a bit from our busy schedules to laugh and get entertained. This brings us together,” says County Director for Culture and Heritage Mohamed Haji.
