Give us your children, Mandago tells parents.
Governor Jackson Mandago EGH has called on parents to allow their children to join TVET institutions so as to equip the youth with technical skills enough to earn them a living.
The County Government of Uasin Gishu is running a campaign to equip the youth with skills as masonry, welding, carpentry, electrical installation and plumbing, assignments that are readily needed in the society.
The County has established and equipped 11 vocational training colleges across the six sub-counties. The colleges offer certificates in various skills, including but not only, carpentry, masonry, tailoring and others.
Also, the County is running a campaign to enrol and impart skills to as many youth as possible, having introduced bursaries of up to Sh 15, 000 to anyone joining the colleges. A collaboration between the county and the national government has also seen the TVET sensitization program incorporated for enrolment to technical institutes which also give Sh 30,000 bursary to everyone joining the institutes.
Technical education position skilled persons to employment as well as self employment. This works to help reduce the youth unemployment which is currently a global challenge.
