Bor, Jelagat shine at rediscover Nandi 10KM road race.
Emmanuel Bor and Nancy Jelagat carried the day in a 10-Kilometers Rediscover Nandi 12th edition race that took place on Kapsabet, Nandi.
In a highly contested challenge attracted over 500 athletes drawn from North rift region, the starters endured the Sunday chilly morning course race in a section of Kapsabet-Kakamega highway, started from Kapsasur and end Namgoi high school.
The 2021 Eldoret city marathon champion, Bor, led 402 men and pocketed Sh. 80, 000 after finishing at 28:21:19 and closely trailed by Daniel Kiprotich 28:30:19 as Victor Kipchirchir closed the top three in 23 seconds later.
Among the men made to the top ten include Geoffrey Kimutai, Philip Tarus, Philemond Kiplimo and Josephat Kiprotich.
Others are Ronsus Kilimo, Kibet Kelvin and Amos Kiplagat.
Jelagat emerged position one with 31:30 followed by Daisy Jerotich 31:38 and Naumi Chepng’eno 32:31.
The event sponsored by Mozart bet and environment ombudsman was Presided by the chief administrative secretary (CAS) for water and Irrigation Dr Andrew Tuimur.
“It’s a great idea that our athletic culture is utilized in the conservation of the environment in our region. And this should be a tradition in support of the national government program of trees planting, targeting to achieve 10% green cover,” he said.
The Re-discover Nandi organizing committee chair Fred Kiptanui concurred with Dr. Tuimur’s remarks claiming that budding athletic talents should be used to give back to the community to enhance socioeconomic aspects of the region.
” We started the event and it has been active for over a decade now. Such competitive events are used to nurture the young talents,” he said.
