Shock as Nandi man kills wife, three children.
Residents of Ndalat in Nandi North are in grief following an incident where a man killed his wife and three children before surrendering to Kipkaren police station.
Philip Lokoruen,40 alias Abero killed his wife and three children aged between seven and 11 years.
According to Trusila Lagat, stepmother to the deceased woman, blamed alcohol addiction for the incident.
Ms Lagat said quarreling and fighting was a daily norm among the couple.
“I have always warned him against assaulting the wife, fighting and assaulting the deceased has been a daily norm in this house. Rampant illicit brew business in Ndalat market has contributed to this incident,” said Ms Lagat.
The suspect travelled for about 10 kilometers to Kipkaren Salient police station where he surrendered to police after committing the heinous act.
Police said that he confessed to have killed his wife Rispa Jelimo, 35, and his three children,Ian Kipkosgei, 11, Brenda Cheruto 9 and Linus Kipkosgei, 7.
“He came to this station with blood stained clothes, he confessed to have killed his wife and three children. We locked him in our cell as we called the area chief to rush to the scene to confirm the incident,” said one of the police officers from the station who did not want to be quoted due to police protocols of talking to the media.
Area chief, Eunice Luley, who was among the first people at the scene confirmed the incident saying that police have taken the bodies to Kimbilio hospital mortuary awaiting post-mortem.
“Upon receiving the information from police about the incident we moved to the house of the suspect only to find the bodies of the three dumped on the bed in their one bedroom rented house,” said Ms Luley.
Ms Luley said for a long time the couple had been in frequent quarrels.
The area chief said the knife which was allegedly used to kill the trio was recovered from the scene and taken to the police station as an exhibit.
“When we arrived at the scene we found the bodies of the three dumped on the bed, the blood stained knife believed to have been used during the killing was found in the sitting room. I can confirm to you that the suspect had been assaulting the wife for a long time,” added the area chief.
The suspect has been admitted at Kapsabet Sub County hospital with a knife stab in the stomach.
Police said they intent to charge him with murder immediately after recovery.
