We expect nothing but a free and fair Nomination, Nandi UDA aspirants demand.
The United Democratic Alliance (UDA) aspirants from Nandi County have unanimously rejected the list of proposed returning officers communicated by the party National Elections Board( NEB)
In a charged meeting held at St Peter’s Catholic church in Kapsabet ,the aspirants took issue with the criteria used in the selection of the returning officers arguing that they could not ascertain their integrity.
“We have a very serious concern over the moral standing of the said officer because some of the are known associates of our competitors. Simply we cannot trust them to hold a fair election “,said Abraham Kirwa,Mosop constituency parliamentary aspirant.
On his part,Kapsabet ward member of county assembly Fred Kipkemboi wondered why the party wanted to decide so desperately to go against the wishes of its members.
“Our party should serve the interests of its supporters and our unanimous voice is that we have to be confident those in charge of elections can deliver a credible nomination process come April 24”, he stressed.
Former Mosop member of parliament Hon Stephen Bitok admonished the party not to repeat the mistakes of Jubilee party in the last general election arguing that he was unfairly ousted from his seat due to a bungled nomination process.
The aspirants in return through consensus elected returning officer to preside over the nominations which showcased the confidence the aspirants had in the church, three quarters of those elected being members of the clergy .
However, the aspirants urged the top organs of the party lead by the party leader Dr William Ruto to put everything in place to ensure the polls slated for April are a true reflection of the will of the people.
“We cannot stress enough the importance of fair nomination process. We hear that the ballot papers will be serialized which is a good thing and will prevent rigging. We should prevent the fallout of the party after nominations by all means”,advised Cherotich Lelei,Nandi Hills constituency aspirant.
Deputy President’s party is scheduled to do nominations of governors, senators, members of parliament and those of county assemblies in preparation for the August polls.
