Nandi: Clergy call for peace a head of 2022 general elections.
A section of church leaders in Nandi have called for tranquility in the region ahead of next year’s general election in the country.
The clergymen caucus urged the the leaders to shun divisive and retrogressive politics and rooted for amicable deliberative solutions when settling emerging political differences amid the growing political tensions.
Speaking to journalist at St. Barnabas church in Kapsabet, the spiritual delegates drawn from various shades of denominations led by Rev. Christopher Saurei, they urged the locals to maintain political tolerance among themselves despite their diversified political inclinations.
“We are calling upon the people living areas bordering Western and Nyanza to maintain peace as we are heading to the testing times in our country. For years, we have been experiencing frequent clashes and we as peace-makers, we are burning midnight oil to ensure that the such ugly incident would not occur again, ” he assured.
Provost Saurei who is also a member of peace committee claimed that the current political outspat witnessed among the politicians is a recipe of regular tribal fights the country has encountered in every elections thus urged the concerned state bodies to take legal action against negative ethnicity perpetrators.
“The National Cohesion Integration Commission (NCIC) to take tough measures against leaders fanning political conflicts among the citizens. Elections should give everyone an opportunity to exercise his or her civil duty without being coerced, and it’s against the electoral democratic laws of the country,” Provost Saurei stated, affirming that peace would prevail upon before and after election.
