Nandi; More push to have county officials suspended over misuse of Sh150 million Covid-19 funds.

Ward representatives have vowed not to relent in their push to have four county officials suspended over alleged misuse of Sh150 million covid-19 funds.

Recently, a report was tables in the Nandi County Assembly recommending suspension of County Executive Committee members Alfred Lagat (finance) and Ruth Koech (health). The report also wants county officers Meshack Malakwen (finance) and Paul Langat (health) suspended.

Speaking at the assembly, nominated MCA Terry Maiyo and her Kilibwoni counterpart Cynthia Muge asked governor Stephen Sang to crack the whip and ensure investigation was confused.


“The report came up and it was it was very clear that a whole 119 million is missing and no one knows what happened to that. The executive member for finance was not able to give to the committee the documentation on how they used the 32 million and the 118 million,” said Maiyo.

She said two ICU beds were missing in Nandi hills sub county Hospital.

“This report is very important because it is showing us how the Money meant for covid 19 was used. The report was able to able to bring out the exact situation in Nandi county in regards to preparedness of covid 19,” said Muge.

She said that according to the report the funds that were suppose to be used for Covid pandemic were used in other things.

She also added that the department of finance is centralized whereby the County Executive Member of Finance CPA Alfred Lagat has all the documents which were not able to be presented to the committee.

“This was a report that painted a true picture of what is happening in Nandi in regards to fight covid pandemic,” She said.

They also pointed out that the county executive member of finance does not respect the county assembly and the powers that it holds.
