Nandi: Invest in your child’s education for better future, parents urged.
Nandi County governor Stephen Sang has urged the parents to educate their children to better their living standard and give back to the society.
He affirmed that his administration is committed to supporting education as a socioeconomic changer and a key pillar to development.
Speaking in a function in Nandi Hills constituency, the county boss claimed that the county government is investing on education infrastructures including ECDE and annual bursary allocation to mitigate the dropping out in schools.
“Some parents cannot afford school fees for their children following the recent hike of the ttion money in the universities. And we are looking forward to the upscaling bursary for the university band TVET students from the community,” he stated.
He however revealed that the enrollment of the students pursuing their dreams in the tertiary institution has significantly increased in the county.
“In the next financial year Nandi County government shall increase the education kitty from Sh. 60 Million to Sh. 120 Million to commensurate with the number of the needy students. The process of accessing the funds will be free and fair using the modalities of selecting the learners from humble backgrounds,” he said.
However, governor Sang implored the youths to venture to online job opportunities rather than waiting to be employed by the government.
The Deputy Governor Dr. Yulita Mitei raised concern over the rampant cases of loitering minors in the urban centers and called upon the parents to take control of their children and restrain them at home.
“As parents, let us ensure our children are in school. They are safer while in school and this help then not to engage in illicit drugs and sexual abuse,” she stated.
The Nandi County Commissioner Caroline Nzwili called on all government officers to work together and eradicate the second generation brew, noting that it has adversely affected the education sector in the community.
“The chiefs and local leaders should work together to get rid of the illicit drugs. WE should implement the government policy to eradicate the poisonous alcoholic drinks being sold in the local shops,” she ordered, adding it would be the only way to save the children and youths.
