Parents want the national government to intervene the spiking schools fees threatening to lock out their children from accessing basic education.
As education resume for the first term and enrollment of form ones secondary schools, a section of parents in Nandi urged the education ministry to cushion the parents from exorbitant cost of learning amid the global pandemic that has battered the country’s economy.
Despite the CS Gorge Magoha’s warning against fee increment by the schools management, the parents said to have found exceedingly expensive to afford the Compitent Based Curriculum (CBC) teaching course books after the new education model was rolled out.
“We are in the middle of a pandemic and some of us lost jobs and we are struggling to make ends meet. The schools are demanding for zero-balance clearance of schools fees, how are we going to manage?” poses Julius Keter, one of the parents.
Noting that the schools were opened in August where commodities have not yet been harvested, Mr Keter said that it has inconvenience parents from paying school fees in time.
He further urged the government to initiate economic stimulus to leverage various sectors ravaged by the Covid-19.
“The government should focus on agriculture, industries among others key sectors to create employement opportunities. We need good business environment to revitalize our economy and sustain our households thus regain out initial economic standards,” he reiterated.
Mr Keter, however, he urged the teachers to follow Covid-19 containment measures to curb out break the disease within the school.
