The reading of the 2020-2021 budget in Nandi County was paralysed after ward representatives protested over delayed salaries of workers.
The MCAs on Wednesday forced out the finance County Executive Committee Member for finance Alfred Lagat asking him to appear the following day to explain the delay in wages.
The motion to adjourn the budget presentation was moved by Nandi Hills MCA Gideon Koech and seconded by Terry Maiyo, a nominated MCA.
Speaker Joshua Kiptoo formalized the adjournment and asked the CECM and other officials to appear on Thursday to explain the salary delays.
“It is high time we know what’s happening in the county. We are among the five counties that faces salary delays. We want to know why our people are suffering,” said Maiyo.
However, CECM Lagat assured workers that their May and June salaries will be paid by Friday.
He claimed some technical issues with the national treasury was behind the delay.
“We have been engaging with the national treasury and we were waiting for accreditation but as we speak I have received a confirmation that we will get our money.” Lagat said.
