Fast track the decision on revenue sharing formula, Nandi MCA urges senate.
The chair of implementation Committee at Nandi County Assembly Gideon Koech has asked senator’s to cede from politicizing the issue of county revenue allocation saying the delay was undermining development in the devolved units.
Koech who is also the MCA for Nandi Hills said the division in the Senate over revenue was driven by ODM legislators from the coast and their Jubilee counterparts from northeastern.
“I am urging the senators to make sure that they take care of the interest of Kenyans and not to politicize” said Koech
Koech said counties had been starved of funds and it was high time the stalemate at the Senate came to an end.
“Senate has an obligation which is in the constitution and that is to give decisions. They must resolve the issue and the best way is to make sure that a bigger percentage of consideration in terms of sharing resources is population.” He said
Koech said it was wrong to marginalize other counties in revenue adding that the gap be sealed through implementation of equalization funds.
The Nandi Hills MCA has also urged the senate and National assembly to scrutinize the the distribution of the 85% Funds being expended at the National level to ensure that it reaches all corner of the country.
