Athletes have been warned to desist from doping or face the law.

Veteran athlete and director of Eldoret City Athletics Moses Tanui said contemporary athletes were tempted to dope as a short cut to making quick money.

According to Tanui, reported cases of doping by Kenyans were ruining reputation of the country unless counter measures to curb the illegal practice were put in place.

“Nowadays most athletes want to win easily without struggling so I want to urge the government to make a law that if anyone is caught using drugs should be jailed” Tanui said.

He said the entire athletic fraternity in Kenya was now tainted because of the few elements and it might push international sport organizers to ban the entire country from future competitions.

Tanui assured winners of April Eldoret City competition that they will be awarded on Friday in a colourful ceremony to be attended by several leaders.

The ceremony was postponed after allegations of doping were reported.

The winners are expected to take home prizes worth Sh18 million.
