Union urge the government to provide nurses with a good working environment.

As nurses celebrate World Nurses Day today, Kenya National Union of Nurses Secretary Amos Ngetich has asked the government to provide a better working condition since they are the front workers.

Speaking to the media, Ngetich said the government should also provide a good research service and trainings during the Corona pandemic period.

“Today being World Nurses Day, we call upon the government and any other relevant institutions to ensure that nurses get good research services, good trainings and proper placement of budgets to align with preventions and promoting services in terms of prevention of corona,” he said.

He said that the government should promote fairness in the health sector by ensuring all staff get risk allowances, and put in place plans to promote delivery of information so that they can secure the people.

“As we all know, nurses are the front liners and they faced many challenges last year when Covid-19 was reported. We want the government to give us a risk allowance equivalent to those of medical officers,” he said.

He added that the government introduce a compensation package for nurses in case of misfortunes on the officers in the line of duty.

“As we speak we have lost more than 100 nurses since the first case of the Covid-19 was reported in the country. We need to do more research until and invest in preventive services because they are effective and efficient,” said Ngetich.

He also said the county government should have legal mandate of testing samples.
