Senator Cherargei wants Tourism ministry to account for athletics promotional funds.
Nandi senator Samson Cherargei want the ministry of tourism to account promotional funds allocated for the Kenya athletic initiatives.
Through a motion approved by the senate on March 3rd, 2022, the legislator claimed that the Tourism Promotion Fund (TPF) to benefit the athletic champions has not yet been effected by the tourism management.
In the document seen by northrift mirror, Senator Cherargei noted that the athletic champions were set to be appointed as the brand ambassadors in various government initiatives to boost tourism sectors and also empower the Kenyan athletes.
“State b the ministry of tourism and wildlife has failed to utilize the Tourism Promotion Fund (TPF) to leverage on excelling Kenyan athletes to promote global tourism as elite brand ambassadors,” he stated.
He said that other countries have succeeded in integrating sports and tourism sector for sustainability, pouting out Rwanda as one of the African countries to have partnered with the Europe premiere league clubs.
The Ministry of the tourism and wildlife life officials as stated by the lawmaker, they should account the millions of funds supposed to be utilized and achieve its objectives.
“State the number of projects the Tourism Promotion Fund (TPF) has implemented successfully, and indicating the amount of public funds spent,” reads the document.
However, Senator Cherargei raised concern over duplication of functions within the tourism sector and want the explanation on the roles and the essence of Tourism Fund, Brand Kenya and Kenya Tourism Board.
