Mandago launches 2021 edition of Eldoret City Marathon.

Uasin Gishu Governor Jackson Mandago EGH has expressed optimism that the Eldoret City Marathon – whose theme is climate change – will help boost the county’s forest cover by double.

Speaking at the county headquarters in Eldoret town during the launch of the 2021 edition of the marathon, Mandago said they are targeting to improve the forest cover in the county from the current 7.6% to 15%.

He noted that as Eldoret moves towards getting a city status, they will need sustainable water supply.

“To be a city we need suitable sources of water which can be achieved through increased forest cover,” Mandago noted.

The Governor who is the Eldoret City Marathon patron further urged sponsors in the event to work together and ensure they help improve the environment.

“Let’s work together to improve our environment…we will plant trees and take care of them until we see them become real trees,” he said.

The 2020 edition of the Eldoret City Marathon – the highest paying Marathon in Africa was not held due to Coronavirus pandemic but partners planted over 20,000 trees at the Kapseret forest.

Mandago announced that the 2021 event will be held on April 11th.
