Report finds reduced audit queries in Nandi County.
Ethics and anti corruption commission (EACC) has finally unveiled a three-year’s corruption risk assessment report for the county of Nandi.
The audit that was conducted between November 2020 and June 2022, was submitted to Governor Stephen Sang in Kapsabet 19th August 2021, outlining the financial expenditure details and the graft tendencies within the county administrative offices since 2018.
The handover function attended by the County Executive Committee (CEC) Members of various departments among other stakeholders was presided by the EACC vice chair Sofia Lepuchirit, who lauded the county efforts to curb the embezzlement of the public coffers.
“For the first time in Nandi, according to our findings, the county has minimal loses of public funds unlike the first five years of the devolution where more questions were raised over the county expenditures in the dispensation and implementation of the county projects, ” she said.
Noting that the departmental financial functions were overhauled and found that the county executive has no audit issues, Lepuchirit stated that it’s a greatest milestone to have been achieved by the county in management of public resources.
“Lack of administrative structures to prevent any lost of public funds is what we found unavailable in each department. These include unclear record keeping, inefficient financial management and information communications which we noted be glaring issues we recommended for improvement,” she affirmed.
Governor Sang, however, said that his government of working tirelessly through execution of projects within the fiscal regulations in finance act to protect the public funds.
