Mandago pledges protection and support for small scale Traders.
Uasin Gishu Governor H.E Hon Jackson K. Mandago, EGH has assured all traders in Eldoret and other towns within Uasin Gishu County that his administration will always support, improve their business environment and protect their property.
The Governor today instructed the Departments of Trade and that of Town Planning to convene a meeting with small-scale traders especially the “mitumba” hawkers who clashed with the enforcement officers on Friday in Eldoret to discuss and build consensus on the problems affecting them.
Speaking during the consultative meeting, the CECMs in-charge of the various departments delivered Mandago’s assurance and asked the traders to report threats to their business as they are all valued investors who contribute in building Eldoret economy.
The leadership informed traders of their rights and responsibilities, especially in the light of changes in the regional economy and the establishment of the Eldoret Municipality even as the town gears up towards upgrading to a City.
The CECM in-charge of Trade Dr Emily Kogos reiterated government’s commitment to protect trader’s rights and freedoms as long as they operate lawfully within designated zones.
“Our main task is to make sure that our investors are running their business with ease” added Dr Kogos.
The hawkers aired their views in a meeting that was also attended by the Uasin Gishu political leadership led by Kapseret MP Hon Oscar Sudi, MCAs Peter Chomba, Francis Muya, David Keitany (Shah) among others.
County Executive Committee incharge of Finance CPA Julius Ruto and his Lands and Urban Planning ccounterpartEng Nelson Maritim enumerated County Government’s roll in town planning and the importance of investors in our economy and service delivery, saying they were committed in offering fair, safe and vibrant business environment.
The CECM in-charge of Co-operative and Enterprise Development Ms Esther Mutai reminded the traders of the need to join SACCOs where they could access cheap loans and make their engagement with the Government more structured and easy.
Led by John Gathuo, the traders termed yesterday’s meeting as fruitful, informative and very promising. They thanked the Governor for ensuring that all communities work in harmony in Uasin Gishu County. They also promised to adhere to all the set laws.
