IEBC warned against clearing candidates with doubtful academic qualifications.

Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) have been cautioned against verifying candidates with questionable integrity issues.

Uasin Gishu Human Rights activists led by Kipkorir Ngetich of Centre for Human Rights and Democracy (CHRD), said that the IEBC should be ready to face legal actions in the event it is found to have cleared the candidates with questionable academic certificates.

He insisted that, having such leaders is tainting the image of Electoral Independent and Boundaries Commission.

“IEBC cannot set a preference where leaders with fake and questionable academic papers are allowed to vie for elective positions. If this matter will not be taken with the seriousness it deserves, we will end up having criminals in the elective positions” Ng’etich said

Ngetich said the commission should lead in upholding the good principles of the law adding that the IEBC chairman Wafula Chebukati will be sued if he will allow leaders with fake academic qualifications to contest in the upcoming August 9 general polls.

At the same time, Ng’etich called on Ethics and Anti- Corruption Commission (EACC) and Director of Criminal Investigations to move with speed in probing into fake academic papers that were recently presented by some of the candidates before IEBC for verification.
