Independent Candidates gang up in bid to oust Governor Sang.
The 2022 Nandi Gubernatorial race has taken a new twist after aspirants who lost in the UDA primaries declared that they will front one candidate to face Governor Stephen Sang in the August polls.
Speaking to journalists in Mosoriot Nandi county, the aspirants led by the former governor Dr Cleophas Lagat alias Chematel said their decision was informed by what they termed a shambolic party primaries conducted on April 14.
They decried widespread ballot stuffing, voter bribery and interference by external forces determined to give Governor Sang a second term at the detriment of other contestants and the voters of Nandi county.
“We are coming together as independent candidates because we have faith in IEBC to deliver free and fair elections come August.” Said Former Governor Cleophas Lagat.
They wondered why there was a big discrepancy in the total tally of gubernatorial votes as compared to the positions of women representative and that of the senator.
The leaders further cautioned leaders from other regions not to interfere with the politics of Nandi accusing them of propping the incumbent to protect their interests in the county.
The aspirants however pledged their support for Ruto’s presidential bid saying his policies will salvage this country from the crisis it is facing.
