Government accused of ignoring Covid-19 amid BBI.
A ward representative has accused the government of concentrating at the quest to amend the constitution at the expense of handling Covid-19 pandemic.
Nandi hills member of county assembly Gideon Koech has accused the government for prioritizing the signing of Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) rather than finding ways for fighting the pandemic diseases.
“We received information as ward reps over the weekend that the provincial administration has been mobilized to ensure that Kenyans signs the BBI. I am so disturbed as a young leader that at this time when we are battling a pandemic the government is busy with the BBI, ” Koech said.
Koech also lashed at the government for appointing chiefs, assistant chiefs to register people instead of appointing youths to do the process.
“If this is indeed a government initiative then they should have enroll the youths of this country so that they can earn some resources,” said Koech.
Koech said that the government could have atleast addressed the issue of unemployment by enrolling youths to do the signing instead of chiefs.
The MCA also said the government should give out the document for the people to read before signing. He said that the chiefs have been given a task to hit a target to deliver .
“We ought to be given such timelines to enrollment of the elderly, reaching out to the society, including issues of tackling the pandemic,” he said.
