Governor Sang: BBI rallies a waste of taxpayers’ money.
Nandi Governor Stephen Sang has dismissed the ongoing Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) rallies as a waste of taxpayers’ money.
The rallies have so far been conducted in Kakamega, Kisii and Makueni with the upcoming one scheduled for Narok.
The campaigns are being led by ODM leader Raila Odinga and several legislators and governors.
Despite enjoying support from several leaders, Sang has criticised the meetings saying millions were going to waste as political leaders engage in rhetorics instead of channelling funds to tangible projects.
The county Chief said it was ironical that while there were key challenges that required funding, money had been channelled to political discourse which the common citizens do not reap immediate benefits.
He cited the challenges facing persons with disabilities as demanding attention as well as other concerns.
The governor was speaking when he received delegation from Makueni, Kitui and Bomet counties who visited to benchmark on social welfare program that has been a success in the host county.
It was during the delegation’s visit that numerous assisting devices were given to persons with disabilities from across the county.
“This country is engaged in a process that if critically looked at it we are being dishonest to ourselves. We have major challenges facing our nation including how to ensure person living with disabilities are part of government agenda. But now our resources as a nation are being diverted to inappropriate use in the name of BBI” said Sang.
