County to partner with SPIA in setting up a peacekeeping memorial in Eldoret.
Soldiers of Peace International Association (SPIA), a nonprofit-making organisation is seeking to partner with the Uasin Gishu County Government in the construction of a Kenyan Peace Keeping Memorial monument at the County headquarters in Eldoret town.
The monument, according to the organization will be a living story that will honor the sacrifices of Kenyan peacekeepers and peacemakers in the service of international peace and security.
It will also symbolize honor and sacrifices by the military, police forces, and civilian personnel who have been undertaking peace operations for over 25 years.
Kenya was part of the first-ever deployment for peacekeeping operations and observers. So far, over 30,000 Kenyans have been deployed in more than 25 peace-keeping missions around the world.
According to the Soldiers of Peace International Association, the monument will be a legacy of Governor Mandago commemorating the first fallen UN peacemaker who hails from Uasin Gishu County – the late BDR Stephen Nyongio Chebochok.
The monument will also acknowledge the deaths and casualties suffered by Kenyan peacekeepers and peacemakers while deployed on operations as well as recognizing the critical contributions by the Kenyan military, police forces, and civilian personnel to peacekeeping operations that are commanded or authorized by the United Nations or sanctions by the Government.
A team from the Soldiers of Peace International Association on Wednesday held a meeting with the Director Partnership and linkages Joywin Sang where they discussed how to work together in setting up the monument, that will also honor the sacrifice of Kenyan peacekeepers and peacemakers in the service of international peace and security.
