Contractors in Nandi demand an apology from CS Murkomen.

The Nandi Contractors’ Association have given CS for roads and infrastructure Kipchumba Murkomen seven days to apologize for allegedly disrespecting the elected leaders.

They said the recent public spat painted him in a bad picture for apparently reading riot act to the legislators who questioned him the parameters used in the allocation of infrustractural development funds and the stalled road projects in the region.

Speaking in Kapsabet town on Tuesday, the local contractors castigated the CS for demeaning leaders and misusing the public office at expense of key mandate entrusted by the appointing authority.

Isaac Sang, the Contractors Association chair in Nandi stated CS Murkomen failed accountability question, and instead, he said that he resorted to politics and diversionary antics from the real issues.

“The voices of leaders is collectively represent the electorates. They are our legislators and they should be given the due respect while articulating pertinent issues pertaining development for the community, and any iota of disrespect to them is an insult to the Nandi people,” he stated.

He urged President William Ruto to call CS Murkomen to order and responsibly adhere to the decorum befitting his office.

Last week while attending the burial of Chesumei MP Poul Biego’s son, CS Murkomen reprimanded Senator Samson Cherargei and Women Rep Cynthia Muge after tasking him to give clarity on the status of the government projects in Nandi.

And a quick rejoinder, the CS who also in attendance, he lost his cool and critisized the Mps for failing to engage him on contentious issues, and instead, they opted to expressing their displeasures in political fora.

The Chairman for the Saw Millers Association in Nandi, Benjamin Kuto pointed out some of the road projects that were earmarked for tarmacking ten years ago, but they were not implemented by the previous administration.

“We can’t wait any longer, our region is lurking behind compare to other counties in terms of development and that’s undisputabl. How can the whole county be given Sh. 56 Million for projects and our neighbouring counties like Uasin Gishu and Elgeiyo Marakwet given up to over Sh. 1 Billion? He posed.

Mr Kuto called upon the government to consider awarding tenders to local constructors preferably the youths and persons living with disabilities to create employment and nurturing of Kenya’s future large scale constructors.

“The government policy to support the local investors must also be adhered to. The bottom-up economic agenda must be realized in the grassroots level and all inclusive for growth and development in the rural areas. What the locals needs now is development and not politics so we urge the leaders to respect one another regardless of divergent opinion,'” he stated.

The youth leader, Cosmas Sang concurred with Mr Kuto and stated the region voted for the Kenya Kwanza government and it deserve lion’s share of development funds.
