Nandi: Locals criticize alleged plans to impeach speaker.
Alleged plan to remove Nandi County Assembly Speaker Joshua Kiptoo from office has received criticism from locals.
There have been rumours circulated through social media saying some ward representatives were planning to impeach the speaker.
A section of residents claim the plan was unnecessary diversionary tactic aimed at crippling the speaker’s fight against corruption in the assembly.
In an exclusive interview with Northrift mirror Kirwa Magut a political analyst said the intention to impeach Nandi Speaker Joshua Kiptoo is in bad taste because lately the County Assembly has been investigating myriad instances of corruption in the County Executive.
“Two weeks ago the Assembly unanimously approved a motion to suspend county officials who oversaw massive lose of Covid mitigation funds. It appears the Executive is determined to undermine the oversight authority of the Assembly by targeting the Speaker for removal.
It is also true that some of the MCAs sponsoring impeachment of the speaker were actually contracted to supply nothing at exorbitant prices, the people of Nandi will stand with the Speaker. We won’t allow a few powerful but corrupt cartels to subvert the fight against graft,” said Magut.
The locals said the impeachment must have been triggered by political leaders who wants to shut him from playing his role as speaker.
“We support the space Hon Speaker has given to County Assembly since he was elected, We know the motive of the Motion was about the recent motion passed by Assembly over the misuse of Covid -19 fund’s,” said Maiyo Josphat a business man.
It is said that the motion will be tabled next week at the assembly.
