Nandi County marks World Food Day.

Nandi County CECM in charge of Agriculture and Livestock Kiplimo Arap Lagat today led hundreds of residents in marking this year’s United Nation’s recognized World Food Day, an event marked world wide on the 16th of October every year.

Speaking during the event held at Mama Damaris Chemogos farm in Cheptil Village, Kabisaga Ward, Lagat called on farmers to embrace production of organic food that will increase both Food and Nutrition security in the county and country at large.

He reminded them to embrace to diversify agriculture by engaging in dairy and poultry farming as well as fish farming in addition to crop farming. This year’s theme has been “Our Actions Are Our Future. Healthy Diets for a ZeroHunger World”.


“My department identifies the Dairy sector as one of the key value chains which has been accorded serious focus in the apportionment of resources so as to turn around the sector which contributes to about 20% of the County’s income.”said Lagat.

 

Earlier today Agriculture and Livestock CEC Kiplimo Arap Lagat interacted with members of Cheptil Community Based Organisation (CBO), one of the beneficiaries of County Government of Nandi partnership with Small Holder Commercialization Programme (SDCP) that is increasing the dairy sector’s commercial sustainability, quality & safety of dairy products.

The CECM further challenged CBOs in the areas to register as Dairy Cooperative Society in order to enjoy more benefits from the County Government projects and programmes.
