Nandi county Assembly resumes sittings after long recess.
Nandi County Assembly has resumed sessions and top in the agenda is the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) bill.
Speaker Joshua Kiptoo said the process will be done procedurally starting on Thursday this week.
The bill will be tables in the assembly before it goes to the Committee of Justice and Legal Affairs before a public participation is done before the ward representatives debate and vote.
“The county Assembly’s has the challenge of just listening to the views of the people without changing the content of the document because the constitution has not given that provision,” said Kiptoo.
Earlier the county assembly of Nandi had gone to the supreme court seeking guidelines on how to incorporate public views.
“We want to thank the court for stopping IEBC from conducting referendum until this matters are considered, and we are happy because that is one of the matters the county assembly of Nandi and Kericho had taken to court,” He said.
The document will be tabled on Thursday afternoon and the committee will have 30 days to come up with a report after conducting a public participation across the county.
“Whatever the public will say will have to be implemented whether they accept or reject the provision of the BBI bill,” Kiptoo pointed.
He assured the people of Nandi that their views will be heard and also will ensure that they conduct civic education.
He said that they were facing a challenge of less copies but they will photocopy for the public to read.
The county assembly will consider whether to approve or reject after the process.
