Uasin Gishu Farmers Export 50 Dairy Cows to Nigeria in Landmark Livestock Deal.
Uasin Gishu County has achieved a major milestone in agricultural exports with the successful dispatch of 50 high-quality dairy cows to Lagos, Nigeria. The livestock, sourced from local smallholder farmers, was flown out via Eldoret International Airport, marking a significant step forward for Kenya’s livestock export industry.
The exported cows were carefully selected for their superior genetics and milk production potential, reflecting the growing reputation of Uasin Gishu as a leader in dairy excellence.
Speaking during the flag-off, Uasin Gishu Governor Jonathan Chelilim celebrated the achievement as a demonstration of the county’s commitment to agricultural transformation.
“This is a proud moment for our farmers and the entire county,” Governor Chelilim said. “It shows that our continued investment in cattle dip rehabilitation, subsidized artificial insemination, and robust extension services is yielding real, market-driven results.”
The export deal not only boosts the local economy but also opens up new market opportunities for Kenyan farmers, further positioning Uasin Gishu as a hub for livestock production and agribusiness.
Governor Chelilim reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to transforming dairy farming into a sustainable, income-generating enterprise, while promoting regional trade across Africa.
