Nandi residents warned against use of substandard facemasks.

Members of the public have been cautioned over fake face masks sold to unsuspecting Nandi residents amid the global pandemic prevalence.

The county health have raised concern over the existence of uncertified Covid-19 preventive equipments being bandied by local traders in Kapsabet town and alongside the rural roads.

This was revealed by the health stakeholders meeting comprise of the county commissioner, county health officials, religious leaders. They claimed that the the generic products are cheaply sold to the residents residents who majority do not distinguish the ineffective and the effective face masks.


County Commissioner Herman Shambi noted that the members of the public deliberately acquire face protection materials to avert confrontation with the security officers.

“We have noticed that their are unscrupulous businessmen selling substandard face masks at cheaper prices. Normally the certified masks goes at Sh 20, but what are being peddled around do not have three layers as it should, thus we urge the public to be vigilance while purchasing them,” he warned.

Mr Shambi noted that the region has recorded deadly delta variant of Covid-19 which has killed 54 persons for the last three months in Nandi.

” It’s so disappointing that people are taking lightly the Covid-19 containment measures, a reason as to why the ministry of health have been reporting pandemic serge in the region,” he said.
However social functions including burials ceremonies and Harambee have been banned as official notices have been sent to morgues for removal of dead persons within 72 hours for interment.
