Nandi leaders and elders call for peace amid ongoing Gen Zs protests.
A section of elders and elected leaders in Nandi have vowed to unite and call for peace amid the ongoing youth-led protest across the country.
They implored Gen Zs, the restive youths to shun chaotic demonstrations and give dialogue a chance and amicably present their demands to the government.
The prayer meeting that took place at Kapsabet Bible college was attended by Kaburwo Council of Elders, Governor Stephen Sang, Mp Joses Lelmengit (Emgwen), Mp Julius Meli (Tinderet), Abraham Kirwa (Mosop) Mp for Chesumei Paul Biego, Mp for Aldai Merrian Ketany and Members of the county assembly.
Governor Sang claimed that they converged for a consultative meeting on development issues and the recent growing disaffection against the government.
“We have resolved to support President William Ruto to deliver in his development agenda. We have to step in to address pertinent issues and condemned any chaotic demonstrations that have caused loss of property and lives of our youths,” he stated.
He urged Gen Zs channel their grievances on a structured leadership for consideration, claiming that President Ruto is ready to listen to them.
Benjamin Kitur, the Chair for Kaburwo Council of Elders said that there is an urgent need for leaders to bring sobriety in the community and also help the president in delivering their mandate.
“The president cannot work alone and he needs responsible leadership in the grassroots to advance government dispensation of services,” he said.
Mr Kitur urged the parents to take up their responsibility in guiding their children on how to create solution on social issues and also allowing the government to act on the pertinent matters including unemployment among other other empowerment initiatives.
