Lift the curfew to save our businesses, Kapsabet traders urge President Uhuru Kenyatta.
The traders community in Nandi has pleaded with President Uhuru Kenyatta to remove curfew in the country to fully resume to their businesses at night.
Bar Hotel Liquor and Traders Association (BAHLITA) while addressing journalists in Kapsabet town on Monday 18th 2021, they lamented that the Covid-19 containment measures have battered their businesses forcing them to close.
Led by Peter Chalicha, the BAHLITA chair person, they urged the government to allow the resumption of the nocturnal economic activities including bars and restaurants which have been partially operating for the last one year.
“Our economic activities have been dwindling which have rendered many people jobless. It’s our humble request to the head of the state to consider opening up the economy to leverage the lives of business men and women dependent to the businesses for a living,” he stated.
He further stated that the partial business operations forced the proprietors to scale down the human workforces and thousands of youth lost job opportunities.
The business stakeholders including chamber of commerce, Matatu and bodaboda are among the economic sectors adversely affected by curfew.
Nicholas Kibet, one of the youth leaders urged the government to inject stimulus funds to economic sectors to create job opportunities for youth affected by Covid-19 prevalence.
“The farmers are also suffering due to poor prices of Agriculture commodities. Opening up the country would enhance the production in various economic electors,” said Kibet.
He also took issues with the politicians campaigning yet the economy is in the pathetic condition.
“We need to pay school fees, we need to eat, pay rent and dress but our businesses activities are very low, we are ready to follow the covid protocols even when the curfew is lifted,” said Caroline Ruto, one of the business women stated.
