Nandi County Economic Forum: Residents ink five year development charter with Kenya Kwanza.
Kenya Kwanza alliance if successfully would have a five-year development charter for if whey will be elected in the August 9th General election.
The designated Deputy President William Ruto’s running-mate Rigathi Gachagua claimed that the government will be implementing the government agenda basing on the key economic areas the citizens have been raising in various economic fora across the counties.
When finalizing the his one-week public engagements and political rallies in the North Rift region in Nandi, Mr Rigathi yesterday revealed that the Kenya Kwanza will be rolling out economic revolution in its first term of presidency.
“We don’t need much for now. What we will deliver in the first term would determine whether the citizens would rewarded us for the second term or not, but we have a development framework hopefully to bring changes to the people,” he stated.
In a meeting where the hundreds of farmers air their plea over their dwindling profits of their economic activities, citing exploitation by the unscrupulous business due to poor policies.
“The Deputy President is committed to boost every economic sector and there would be a leeway to pass pro-agriculture policies to fix perennial challenges which have creepled the development in the agriculture zones,” said Mr Gachagua, claiming that the radical reforms will be made to boost the economic activities and better the lives of tea, coffee and dairy farmers.
He further said that they have received the memoranda from various economic groups including the from informal sectors, and ensued confidence that the prospective Kenya Kwanza government would deliver to deliver.
The designate Deputy president, Mr Gachagua was flanked by the the UDA leaders including Nandi county governor Stephen Sang, Mp Julius Meli (Tindiret), Mp Didimus Barasa (Kimilili) senator Samson Cherargei (Nandi), Senator Kipchumba Murkomen and the host of the UDA nominees in various positions.
Governor Sang took issue with the Jubilee government claiming that the tea and dairy sector have been held hostage by the business monopolist, an urged the next government to open up for a competitive market.
“The government officials have a hand in the key economic sectors and they have sabotaged policy formulation process in the national assembly and the senate. And we are looking forward for a government that will help to foster agriculture sector in the country,” he said.
MP Meli concurred with Governor Sang and raised his concern over exhibitant value addition taxes imposed to farming machineries by the government. He stated to have negatively affected the value addition initiatives in the region.
“The 16% VAT added on the importation of the sugar processing machines in the sugar cane growing zones in Nandi. It’s has become impossible for farmers to purchase the value addition implements from abroad,” stated Meli.
However, Mr Gachagua campaigned urged the residents to deliver UDA leaders in the bid to have more Mps for the Kenya Kwanza alliance.
” We need legislators that shares a common government development objectives. The senate and the national assembly would help in the formulation and approval of the economic policies to leverage Kenyans suffering from economic deterioration,” he added.
