Governor Kiptis asks residents to abide by the imposed curfew rules.
Baringo County Governor Stanley Kiptis has called upon the residents to abide by the dusk to dawn curfew rules recently imposed by the government in order to improve security in parts of Baringo.
Addressing the Baringo North residents, Kiptis urged the elderly and the youth to take advantage of the curfew by protecting their homes, and to spend time with their children since the schools will be closed soon.
Kiptis further said that legal action will be taken against those found going against the rules put in place adding that by following the rules the long waited peace in the area will be realized.
Baringo County is one of the three North Rift Counties where the dusk to dawn curfew was enacted from June 4, to allow the government to conduct security operations in the area.
The move is said to pave the way for security agencies to mount a security operation against banditry and deadly conflicts in the area.
Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i announced a massive disarmament operation which was launched alongside social development interventions to restore order in parts of the North Rift. He said the intention is to get rid of the illegal weapons causing havoc in the area.

Public gatherings and processions are banned in the affected areas during curfew hours. The move comes in response to prevailing elevated levels of banditry fueled by conflict over land and other resources.
Matiang’i said those exempted from the curfew include medical professionals and health workers, National security, administration, public health and sanitation officers in the County Governments, licensed pharmaceutical companies, pharmacies and drug stores and licensed Broadcasters and media houses among others.
