Baringo MCA’s ready to set aside more funds to combat COVID-19.

Baringo Members of County Assembly has assured residents of its readiness to approve more funds to curb  COVID 19 pandemic in line with the guidance provided by the National Government.

They were led by Kabarnet ward member of county assembly Ernest Kibet who said that development progress is no longer relevant at this time; since what is important now is to save the lives of the people against the virus.

“We decided that we are going to support the National Government to combat this disease. It will not matter even if it means taking all the entire amount for development to combat this desease because what will be the use of development if all these people die” Earnest said

He cited that they must set aside any amount of funds needed for the sake of people of Baringo adding that there is need to look for more resources incase the virus prolong.

“We will be forced to disrrupt the budget cycle. Therefore, we are appealing to the National government that immediately after this pandemic, they must increase the allocation so that we are able to go back to our normal lives.” He said

The MCA said without resources they will not be able to deal with Covid-19  pandemic. He however, wants the National Government to increase the allocation of funds to county governments each year, for the counties to complete their development projects after all the money is used to tackle the Covid 19 pandemic.

County Assembly of Baringo had earlier approved a buget of Ksh. 200 Million to counter the coronavirus in the county whereby Ksh. 70 milion of the funds will be used in food distribution to vulnerable in the society, 30 milion will be used in water distribution and another 31 million shillings will be used in rapid response. The rest of the funds will be used in equipping health facilities and setting up of isolation centres.
