All Seven bodies of police officers who died in floods recovered.
The search for the Anti-Stock Theft Unit officers’ bodies in Baringo North has come to an end after the last body was found four days after a tragedy occurred in which 12 soldiers drowned in Kagir River, Baringo North resulting in the loss of seven soldiers while five survived the ordeal.
Baringo County police commander Robinson Ndthiwa applauds the Baringo North residents for joining the government officials as well as the Red Cross in search of the officer’s bodies.
”I want to thank Baringo North and Tiaty residents for their efforts in search of the missing bodies. It was not an easy task and with their help we have managed to recover all the bodies where we found the last one was yesterday in the evening” Ndthiwa said
The police commander said that although all the bodies have been recovered, the government still has the task of searching for the guns the officers had at the time of the accident. He calls on the residents to surrender the guns to the police if they find them.
“We hope to find the missing guns when the rains subside. I call upon the residents to handover the guns to chiefs if they find them” He said
Twelve officers drowned after their truck was swept away by heavy flood waters while returning to their camp at Chemoe on the border of Baringo North and Tiaty Sub-Counties from a security meeting in Kabarnet last week on Thursday night.
The death of the Anti-Stock Theft Unit officers has raised a lot of blame to the government, particularly KERRA for allegedly failing to construct the Bridge, despite a cry from the residents for many years.
Baringo Deputy Governor Jacob Chepkwony promised that a modern bridge will be built to ensure that such disaster will not happen again in future.
