Water a crucial hinge and remains my priority—Mandago

The County Government of Uasin Gishu has yet again allocated water the largest share of the monetary pie in the 2019/2020 Financial Year.

The plan to increase financial allocation to water provision was seeded from the previous year, a project seeking to succeed Governor Jackson Mandago’s promise of ensuring all households get water.

And speaking as he launched the drilling exercise for Ng’atit Water Project in Ainabkoi Sub-County, Governor Mandago hinted that water has been given financial muscle in the new financial year.

“This budget that we are passing in our county, we are putting much emphasis on water because we want everyone to get water.”

He adds: “I promised that everyone will get water, the advantage that town dwellers have in terms of access to water will also be the case in the grassroots.”

Mandago says water is an enabler and will in this case help in irrigation for diversification, farmers to take milk to coolers with growth of dairy farming and other practises that will hinge economic growth.

That the County decided to purchase own drilling equipment is worth the course. “My Government bought these machines so that we can drill water at our convenience, only incuring costs of fuel,” wraps up Mandago.

Member of Parliament for Ainabkoi William Chepkut was in attendance.

Water and Environment County Executive Mary Njogu said the project will supply water for up to 300 households besides schools.

“…several other projects as Ainet, Chepkongony, Kerka, Katuiyo, Kipsinende, Elegarin, are some of the other projects in Kaptagat Ward.”

She added that the dams desilting process earmarked two reservours as a starter, as the department aims to fulfil the Governor’s legacy of connecting all households to water.

CECs Eng. Gideon Birir (Roads), CPA Julius Ruto (Finance) and Chief Officer for Water Simeon Kemei were also present in the event.
