Uproar over choking garbage, stench in Kapsabet town, residents decries neglect.
Residents of Kapsabet have given the department of environment in Nandi County 14 days to rid the town from the litter dotting the town.
Led by Kapsabet ward Representative Fred Kipkemboi the locals said the stinking odour had taken over the town under the watch of responsible officials in Nandi County.
Fred said if the town will not be cleaned in two week’s time, he will lead locals to the department of environment to eject the County Executive Committee and other officials from their offices.
” It is shameful to have county headquarters in such a mess. It predisposes people to diseases and paints a bad picture to investors,” said Fred
The MCA said operators of eateries and butcheries had sought his intervention saying clients were avoiding their premises over health scare.
Fred said the neglect had stretched to other centres in the county including Kabiyet and Mosoriot.
“We have individuals responsible for collecting and disposing the waste. They earn salaries yet they have abandoned their responsibilities,” he stated.
The residents also said the situation was aggravated by “absentee governor” Stephen Sang who was no longer eager to command order in his government.
The issue of garbage disposal has been challenging in the county with the dumpsite sharing place with the cemetery.
