Uasin Gishu Deputy Governor H.E Daniel Chemno today flagged off 2000 litres of assorted pests products that will be distributed to all farmers across the County.
H.E Chemno said the products comes amid outcry by the public on the rise of fall armyworm that has threatened to continuously destroy the County’s pride ‘the food basket’
Flanked by CECM for Agriculture Mr Samwel Yego,Chemno said it is a relief to maize farmers who had opted to seek traditional avenues of killing worms.
According to Teressiah Karanja who represented the Principal Secretary ministry of Agriculture State Department of Crop Production,the pest products will be used by the County officers in charge of agriculture department to teach farmers on how and when to apply the components in their crops.
“Uasin Gishu County is among the key counties that were chosen by the ministry in the fight of the worm since it is the country’s food basket” said Karanja
The 2000 litres of pesticites have been reseached and proven to subdue the worms.
CECM for Agriculture on his part disclosed that upon County having its pests consignment in place,the distribution process will kick off immediately.
“Once we receive the procured pests,we will go directly to Sub counties or the Wards depending with the criteria of distribution that will be preferred by farmers” said Yego
Yego noted that his docket will prioritize the areas that are believed to be mostly affected by the pests.
