Two Eldoret based bloggers arrested over Facebook post claiming CS Matiang’i is in ICU battling COVID-19.
Police have arrested two Eldoret based bloggers over a social media post claiming that Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr. Fred Matiang’i had contracted COVID-19 and was admitted in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).
The suspects, Emmanuel Kimutai Kosgei aged 31 and his 19-year-old brother Isaac Kibet Yego allegedly posted the false information about CS Fred Matiang’i on their facebook page Daily Star.
They were arrested on Saturday by Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) detectives at Ngeria area in Uasin Gishu County.
The two have been detained for questioning and are expected to be arraigned in court next week.
Police have since retrieved a mobile phone and laptop that might have been used to publish the social media posts.
Dr. Matiang’i on Friday dismissed reports claiming that he has contracted COVID-19 as rumours which he blamed on individuals he described as “mentally deranged” and who are keen on distracting him from his job.
