Tiren declare support for Gideon Moi’s 2022 presidential bid.
It was just a matter of time before the cat could be let out of the bag. On Tuesday, the embattled Jubilee MP Silas Tiren who for a long time had been at the crossroads on whether to support Jubilee or Kanu parties publicly endorsed Baringo Senator Gideon Moi’s 2022 Presidential aspirations.
Tiren, who is deemed a ‘lukewarm’ Jubilee member, has on many occasions hit out at the Jubilee administration under the leadership of President Uhuru Kenyatta, and DP Ruto over issues of graft, plight of maize farmers, and equitable distribution of development programs.
Speaking during a peace rally in Tiaty on Tuesday, the Moiben lawmaker accused DP Ruto of being on the negative side of leadership, saying that he had been at the Center stage of every corruptiop allegation in the country.
Backing his statement was Tiaty MP William Kamket who said the only person who will succeed President Uhuru after his term expires will be Senator Moi.
“Pokots from all over the country have decided to support Senator Moi in 2022 and it will remain that way” said Kamket.
Kapenguria MP Samuel Moroto of JP who was also present during the peace rally said that they are supporting the president and his entire Government including his Deputy William Ruto.
DP RUTO EFFECT
Thriving in Uasin Gishu politics using a different party from that of Deputy President William Ruto is like riding a boat in a stormy weather.
DP Ruto is the area political kingpin, and anyone who receives his support is considered to have an upper hand in the elections.
In the past, a few leaders from the region have attempted seeking political seats on rival parties, but lost to those on the DP’s side.
In 2013, Prof Margaret Kamar tried contesting for the Uasin Gishu governorship on an ODM ticket, but lost to Jubilee party’s Jackson Mandago. The same happened to Henry Kosgei who lost in Nandi County.
It is undoubtedly clear that Tiren is not swimming in the same political waters with DP Ruto and his allies. The lawmaker now has a hard job ahead of him before the 2022 elections.
He needs to implement proper political strategies for him to successfully defend his seat. It will be a hard nut to crack for Tiren if he attempts to defend his seat without the endorsement of DP Ruto.
