Suspend BBI, Anglican Church clergy demands.
The Anglican church of Kenya (ACK) has accused political leaders of hijacking the call for constitutional amendments through the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI).
Kapsabet Bishop Paul Korir said ordinary citizens had been secluded as politicians pushed their interests through BBI rallies.
BishopKorir said since the ambitious Initiative had been corrupted and politicized, it should be suspended until 2023 when the next general elections had been completed.
The clergy said the initial BBI hinted on addressing issues affecting citizens of Kenya but now it has changed into a political rhetoric.
” The initial BBI was very good and it was targeting on issues affecting the citizens of Kenya but it has been hijacked by politicians,” said Korir.
He said what politicians were saying during the rallies was about the 2022 elections rather than fronting issues affecting the people.
Nandi governor Stephen Sang also agreed with the bishop saying that if the initial BBI was articulating matters affecting the citizens but now it has been used by specific leaders to build there political career for 2022.
“The initial BBI was a noble idea but now some few politicians have taken it to be a platform to build there political career and to undermine others,” said Sang.
Governor sang said that all counties have a right to raise there issues affecting them.
