Push for Kaiboi Technical Training Institute elevation to a National Polytechnic.
The leaders are pushing for elevation of Kaiboi Technical Training Institute to a national polytechnic in Nandi County.
Following the resolutions made by education stakeholders, the petitions have been submitted and pending approval by the ministry of education.
Mosop Mp Abraham Kirwa said the institution meets the qualifications to acquire a national status to substantively offer higher education to students drawn from the local and foreign countries.
He noted that the oldest center of education started in 1964 as a community polytechnic and since then, it has grown to an Institute which admits over 1000 students annually.
“We sought views from the locals, the institution’s board among other education stakeholders, and they all unanimously agree with the proposal. The paper works was done and sent to Nairobi and we hope the ministry of education will put into consideration our submissions,” he stated.
Mp Kirwa hinted that they first engaged President William Ruto about the idea and gave an okay nod to start the process towards the end of 2022.
“If our wishes will be granted, Kaiboi will be the second National polytechnic in North Rift region after Eldoret national polytechnic. It has sufficient facilities and resources than any other institutions of its kind, and that will be some of the factors to be considered in the process, ” he stated.
Kaiboi which located in Nandi North is one of the largest technical institutions after Ol’Lessos Technical Training Institute in the region. It has over 5,000 students according to 2023 enrollment data and offers Agriculture, Civil ingeineering, business, biology and inndurial courses.
It sits on a 64 acres parcel of land along Chepterwai-Mosoriot town highway; which gives a headstart of expansion and transition to a national institution accommodating up to over 10, 000 students.
According to the school deputy principal Violah Ng’etich, the institution offers a cutting-edge courses that impart learners with knowledge and skills to provide solutions to social and economic challenges in the society.
“We have the ICT facility with over 100 computers, masonry workshop and mechanical engineer workshop and fully equipped with modern training equipment. 30 classrooms are under construction and they are set to accommodate 1, 500 new students placed Kenya University and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCP) and they are expected to report in September, ” she revealed.
