North rift county assemblies calls on President Kenyatta to focus on challenges facing the region and nation.
Members of the County Assemblies from North Rift region wants the National Government to focus on the challenges facing the country and to stop the sideshows which they say is to generate unnecessary political temperatures, create animosity and divert them from the challenges that the country is facing.
Speaking in Eldoret, the representative of the county assemblies of Northern rift cluster Kipruto Kimosop who is also from Baringo County Assembly said that the purported impeachment of the leader of majority Kipchumba Murkomen and majority chief whip Susan Kihika, are side shows and that the purpose of it is to divert them.
“We are told that there are some other impeachments coming up. We have seen demolitions happening at night in places like kariobangi and other places. To us these are side shows; we don’t need this now the import of this is to divert us from where we are as a country where we should actually be together” Kimosop said
Kimosop appealed to leadership in the national level and particularly the president that if he is to cement his legacy as a president; it is time for him to stand and ensure that he addresses the challenges that the country faces like floods, mudslides and the COVID-19 pandemic.
“We took the issues of covid-19 and calamity that we are facing seriously and we are not ready to get diverted into other ideas” he said
On the other hand, the County Assembly Forum Secretary General who is also the Tinderet Member of County Assembly Kipkurui Chepkwony said that this is not the time to focus on other political arrangement; instead it is the time to focus on pandemic.
He cited that it is wrong timing to have mergers and that the president need to come back to track and address the challenges faced currently.
“They expect people from this region to get concern but this is not the time. Let us remain as a country and focus on the current challenges. The moment that these arrangements and the dramas that are happening, will reach county assemblies, it will be full drama so we don’t want that and we are not ready for it” He stated
He said that they have come together as North Rift County Assemblies to appeal to the country and to the president that it is time to stick together.
“Apart from corona virus, this region has experienced other calamities .we have experienced landslides in most parts where we have lost lives and properties and people are suffering. These calamities apart from COVID-19 are enough reason as a country for us to get focused on the challenges we are facing and for our president to actually stand as a simple of National Unity and ensure we address these particular problems” the SG said
