Nandi governor Stephen Sang has criticized national government over what he termed as misplaced priorities.
Sang accused the government of investing on projects that derail the economy.
The governor said the construction of Nairobi Expressway, Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) among other projects that had forces government to borrow heavily were unnecessary.
“As we speak today, there is an ongoing construction of an Expressway from Jomo Kenyatta International Airport to Westlands in Nairobi at a cost of over Sh60 billion. If the funds were injected into agriculture, the economy would has e improved in a year or two,” said Sang.
The county chief was speaking during the launch of Nandi County Youth Service.
Sanglashed at national government for its insatiable appetite of borrowing loans saying the country was sinking into difficult position due to debts.
“The minister is telling us we are broke as a nation yet they want to spent billions in a referendum that does not add value to any ordinary citizen in our nation,” he lamented.
He said that the government should use the money to create job opportunities to unemployed youths and major on projects that will upgrade our economy.
“No leader who understand the situation this country is will allow this kind of nonsense that you spent 14 billion when young men of this country are asking for a small part to turn around their life,” he said.
Sang said the government is creating job opportunities to people who have a job already instead of creating jobs to millions of unemployed youths.
He said that the people are signing so that they can vote no when it is time for referendum telling those supporting BBI not to be excited.
He told those fronting the BBI to make sure they reconsider the pending issues that are not added.
600 youths from all the sub counties in Nandi county graduated and will be employed through the ministry of youths and sports on various departments at the county.
