Nandi: Youths calls for political tolerance among aspirants.
Political tolerance advised in Nandi.
A section of youth from Nandi county have urged political aspirants eyeing various positions in the coming general election to exercise political tolerance.
Speaking in Arwos ,the youth asked the leaders to exercise decorum when engaging the locals and take caution not to use words that may incite their followers.
” Most of the aspirants are qualified to be our mothers and when they resolve to abuse each other we are left wondering whether we really have role models”, posed Daniel Koech a resident.
This follows the spread of leaflets meant to mudsling one of the aspirants seeking to succeed the outgoing member of parliament Alexander Kosgey who is eyeing the senate seat.
Further, the youth maintained that they will give each aspirant an opportunity to sell their agenda and asked them to reciprocate the same by respecting their competitors.
” We expect our leaders to show political maturity. They should treat each other with respect so that as “wananchi” we may have an easy time weighing who is better suited to lead us”, Shadrack Koech.
The youth drawn from various sub counties affirmed that they will remain peaceful contrary to the reports by National Cohesion and Integration Commission that designated Nandi County as one of the areas that may likely experience political unrest in the August Polls.
Speaking on phone, the first women representative of Nandi and contestant of the Emgwen Constituency Zipporah Kering condemned the spread the hate leaflets that meant to taint her name and called upon her competitors to practice decent politics saying the needs of the people of Emgwen should placed before personal interests.
‘I promise to always adhere to the norms of the society as I engage the voters and urge my competitors to do the same”, Kering added.
A fierce political battle is expected in Emgwen constituency as a dozen aspirants are lined up to replace the son of former minister Henry Kosgey who has shifted his interests to the senate position. Among the aspirants are the current women representative Dr Teclah Tum,KUPPET secretary General for Nandi region Paul Rotich ,businessman Josses Lelmengit among others.
