Nandi women Rep Cynthia Muge set to table a bill empowering PWDs.
Nandi county women Rep Cynthia Muge wants the persons living with disabilities to register their self-help groups to access government empowerment services.
She stated that the vulnerable families should be sensitized and mobilized to actively engage in group activities that would generate income to better their living standard.
Speaking in Kapsabet while distributing food to a section of PWDs, Women Rep Cynthia said organizing disabled persons in group is convenient for equitable distribution of resources in the communities.
“There should be policies that safeguards PWDSs. And this will involve women and youths. We are looking forward to enacting a bill that will consider persons with disabilities in the allocations of empowerment projects for vulnerable groups,” she said.
Cynthia also stated that the proposal would push for the NHIF cover to include the procurement of assistive devices from private and public health facilities in Kenya.
“It will not be a challenge for the PWDs to get wheelchairs, white sticks and earring gadgets, the medical services should include provision of assistive devices among other essential items supporting mobility,” she claimed.
However, Cynthia urged the government to provide accurate data for the PWDs in Kenya to help planning and appropriation of development projects.
