Nandi Senator Samson Cherargei has been summoned by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations for allegedly issuing statements considered a threat to national peace.
DCI has written to the legislator asking him to appear before them to respond to questions related to threatening utterances he made during a funeral service in Lelwak in Nandi County.
Alleged utterances circulated on social media showing the youthful senator castigating unnamed critics of Deputy President William Ruto.
In the video, he warns the critics to “keep off DP Ruto or face consequences when time comes.”
The utterances have received mixed reactions with a section if leaders from Ruto’s backyard condemning the senator for making careless remarks.
Uasin Gishu Woman Representative Gladys Shollei said the utterances were uncalled for.
Meanwhile, the senator has been booked for Wednesday when he is expected to face detectives in the county.
