Nandi: Governor’s cup 3rd edition set to kick off this Friday.

Governor’s cup 3rd edition is set to kick off in Kapsabet as the volleyball teams are expected to battle for the prized competition over the weekend.

The much anticipated tournament that will be participated by over 80 teams, both the national and local players, starting from Friday and reach its climax on Sunday.

Briefing journalist at Eliud Kipchoge training complex, Charles Nyaberi, the vice cheir for Kenya Volleyball Federation and Malkia Stars head coach Paul Bittok and county sport’s CEC Elly Kurgat said that the event would give the budding talented stars an opportunity to showcase their abilities and be fished out of the community clubs and recruited to the established national clubs.


“Courtesy of the county government facilitation, the youth have been provided with another opportunity to to explore their talents in the sports and as stakeholders, we shall oversee the events and expecting the management of the potential clubs to recruit the young sport men and women for the local teams, ” he said.

Mr Bittok noted that over 60 facilitators including coaches, referees among other supporting staff personnel have confirmed their attendance and the preparation is on a high gear for a series of matches ahead.

“We are great that this is actually the first biggest event ever since the corona hit the country, and we are lucky that the county government of Nandi has organized for the youth. We expect some of the youth to be absorbed to the national and international clubs since this is the only opportunity the young talented individual players to secure employment in the established organizations sponsoring volleyball teams,” Bittok stated.

According to CEC Elly Kurgat, Sh. 700, 000 channeled to the event preparation kitty and prizes set to be awarded to the winners in various levels) categories.

“The top winners will go home with trophies and prizes. The first position in senior’s categories of both men and women will be awarded Sh. 60, 000, 2nd and the 3rd would be given Sh. 30,000 and Sh. 20,000 respectively,” he said.

The selfsponored teams would smile while returning to their homes with 30, 000, 20,000 and 15,000 for the 1st, the 2nd and the 3rd team respectively.
