Following the ruling out of the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) by Court of appeal, Kapsabet town was in frenzy as the residents took to the streets to celebrate the verdict.
In the event that took the better part of Friday evening, the bodaboda riders and hawkers led by local leaders went round the town dancing gospel and ceremony folk songs, evoking the Deputy President William Ruto’s affiliated party, United Democratic Alliance (UDA).
The county leaders among them include Mp Wilson Kogo (Chesumei), Mp Julius Meli (Tindiret) and Kapsabet town Mca Fred Kipkemboi among other political opinion leaders were present.
Mp Meli applauded the 7-bench judges that made a ruling against the referendum claiming that the nullification of the constitutional reforms is an ultimate test of the Judiciary and thus prevailed upon the personal interest of the few political leaders.
“Minority of the members of the paliament who voted against the document and branded Tangatanga have been vindicated. Our voice have been confirmed wright and divisive constitutional charade have been avaded,” he stated.
He castigated President Kenyatta and his handshake partner Raila Odinga claiming for what he claimed that the referendum quest was not comprise of people’s driven agenda and instead, the process was politically motivated to block Dp Ruto from succeeding his boss next year.
According to the court ruling, president was accused as a key initiator who sponsored the referendum initiative against the basic legal framework that guides the constitutional ammendment, Mp Kogo appealed to President Kenyatta to respect the law as the senior most state officer until his second and final term ends.
“No one is above the law, and this is what the judges prove that everyone must be subjected to the rule of law. People emerged the winners against the individuals ploted to mutilate the 2010 constitution to suit their own personal interest,” said Mp Kogo, who is also one of the Dp Ruto’s close allies in the region.
Noting that Nandi was among the three counties to reject the BBI document in Rift valley, MCA Kipkemboi who led the county ward representatives in shooting down the bill in February this year said that that the government should on levaraging the country’s economy and stability ahead of general election.
“The referendum was useless and it could not solve the underlying economic issues occasioned by Covid-19,” he said
