Nandi county to distribute nets in a fight against malaria.
Nandi county health department together with stakeholders is set to distribute over six thousand mosquito nets across the county.
The exercise comes even as 2020 data indicates that malaria cases among children under the age of five are 6,998 while adults are 32,523.
Speaking after a meeting with the stakeholders Chief officer in charge of preventive and promotive health Kemboi Sally said they are preparing for registration of households in order to distribute the mosquito nets.
“We want each and every house hold to register the nets so that we are able to prevent malaria in Every household to be able to sleep under the mosquito net,” she said.
She said that the activity of distributing nets is done after three years because the treated net is active for three years.
She said they are set to mobilize and educate the locals on the importance of using a treated net.
“We want to make people understand that the nets are not for other purposes in order to prevent malaria ,” she stated.
According to Malaria campaign coordinator in the county, Japheth Ruto said that malaria disease has been a big problem in Nandi, urging locals to ensure that they sleep inside a treated mosquito net.
“We will register more than one million people at the end of this month. Every family will be able to receive a net according to the members in the family,” said Ruto.
They cautioned individuals suspected of misusing nets as fences in their farms that the law will catch up with them even as he insisted that nets should be used only on the prevention of mosquito bites.
